Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the effectiveness of tinidazole -(Fasigyn) and to record any side effects and toxicity of the drug.
A new derivative of imidazole, tinidazole (ethyl-1 -1 C-2-(2-methyl-5.nitro-l-Imidazolyl) ethyl] sulfone), was investigated in the treatment of trichomonas vaginitis in 47 patients who visited Out Patient Department, Ob. & 1,Gyn.,SNUH.
This antitrichomonacide was administered by mouth in dose of 450 nag/day .for 5 days.
Local treatment used in 15 patients (Group A), and no local treatment was done in 32 patients (Group B).
Test of cure was performed by direct wet smear and cultural method(Roiron_Rattner medium, 1958).
Before and after treatment 11th day the following laboratory tests were -carried out; SGOT, SGPT, alkaline phosphatase, serum bililubin, WBC count, and differential count.
The result obtained are as follows.
1) Cure rate Group A; 93.3go(14/15) Group B; 84.4%(27/32)
2) Side effects occurred in 7 cases (14.9%), they were mild or moderate, such as headache, anorexia, dry mouth, nausea, vertigo, indigestion, and no one serious having to stop treatment.
3) Laboratory findings remained unchanged in both before and after treatment 11th day.
4) This investigation indicates that tinidazole appears to be an effective trichonnonacide with advantages of low dosage, short duration of treatment, low incidence of side effects, and no toxicity.
